Mr. Justice K.M. Hafizul Alam
Mr. Justice K.M. Hafizul Alam was born on 03 March 1974. He is the son of K.M. Amir Hossain and Hasina Begum. Justice Alam started his education in Khayerhuda Government Primary School, Jibanangar. He passed SSC examination from Jibannagar Pilot High School, Jibannagr, Chuadanga in 1989 and HSC from Cantonment College, Jashore, in 1991. He obtained Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.-Hon’s) and secured First Class 4th position in the merit list from Islamic University, Kushtia. He earned his Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from the same University. Mr. Justice K.M. Hafizul Alam holds a PhD from the Jahangirnagar University; his PhD thesis was on constitutional law focusing on Public Interest Litigation (PIL), he has taught Law in different prominent institutes of Bangladesh.
Professional Career
Mr. Justice K.M. Hafizul Alam started his professional career as an Advocate. After enrollment at Bangladesh Bar Council on 29.01.2002 he joined Chuadanga District Bar Association. He was enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh on 27.04.2003. He was a member of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association, Dhaka District Bar Association and Dhaka Taxes Bar Association. He was enrolled as an Advocate of the Honorable Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh on 29.03.2018. Mr. Alam has worked in renowned law chambers in Bangladesh as an Associate. He was also the head of Dr. Hafiz & Associates, Law Chamber.
Elevation to the High Court Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh
On 31 May 2018, having more than 16 years of career as a lawyer Mr. Alam was elevated to the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh as an Additional Judge. On 30.05.2020 Mr. Justice K.M. Hafizul Alam was appointed as Judge of the same Division. Before joining in the International Crimes Tribunal [ICT-BD], Dhaka, Mr. Justice Alam has served about 2 years in the High Court Division as Judge of a Division Bench having jurisdiction of writ and criminal matter arising out of Anti -Corruption laws and Money Laundering matter etc. He was also the Judge of a Division Bench for more than a year absolutely dealing with criminal cases. Justice Alam adjudicated civil matters for a considerable time as a Judge in the High Court Division.
After three and half years of performance as Judge of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, High Court Division, Mr. Justice K.M. Hafizul Alam was appointed as a Member of the International Crimes Tribunal [ICT-BD] on 17.10.2021. He is currently continuing as a Member of ICT-BD-1.
Training/courses received - Mr. Justice Alam received training on Bar Vocational Course – 6 weeks (27th April, 2002 to 6th June, 2002) by Legal Education & Training Institute, Bangladesh Bar Council, Dhaka; Training Programme on Human Rights Awareness Raising (HRARTP) from 25th July, 2004 to 30th July, 2004 at the Legal Education & Training Institute, Dhaka, Jointly organized by the Legal Education & Training Institute (LETI), Bangladesh Bar Council and the Australian High Commission. He also participated in a number of training on Income Tax Practice; Vat, Custom, Bond & Baggage Rule, Shipping, Logistics & International Trade Documents; Research Methodology with Application of Statistical Package for Social Science; Modern Management, Investors Awareness Program on Capital Market, Basic Course on Technical Analysis of Stock Market and Rotary Leadership Graduation Program Part 1 & 2. He attended a Language Course on Certificate in English Language Proficiency from Bangladesh Open University.
Employment History - He was a lecturer of Mirpur Law College and Adjunct Faculty, Northern University, Bangladesh; Legal Advisor-Health Education and Economic Development–HEED Bangladesh; Panel lawyer- Ansar VDP Unnayan Bank, Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA), Janata Bank Limited, Agrani Bank Limited and First Finance Limited; Legal consultant-Bangladesh Nursing Council. He also worked as a Reporter of-Bangladesh Law Chronicles–BLC (leading law journal) and a Court reporter in a well circulated daily newspaper for about 5 years.

Area of practice – Mr. Justice Alam during his profession as lawyer has extensively practiced in the area of Judicial Review-Writ, Criminal cases, Civil disputes, Arthorin Matter, Administrative laws-service matters, Arbitration, Banking Matters, Company matter, VAT–Custom-Income Tax, Employment laws-Labor law, Share and Securities etc. He also practiced on Public Procurement Laws, Real-Estate laws, Copy–right and Trademark laws, Family laws, Information commission laws. He worked on issues relating to vetting and drafting of different types of deed/documents. He dealt with different legal issues of officers and staffs of University of Dhaka, University of Chittagong, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh Open University, National University, WASA, RAJUK, Civil Aviation Authority, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Bangladesh Rail Way, Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institute, Water and Development Board, Save the Children and many more institutions, and individuals. He was one of the counsels for the respondent of ICC Arbitration Case before the International Court of Arbitration of International Chamber and Commerce held on 22-25thJanuary, 2018, at International Dispute Resolution Centre, London, United Kingdom. He also travelled Nepal for providing legal support to the US Bangla Air Craft crash victims.
Extra Curriculum Activities - Mr. Justice Alam is interested in playing chess. He participated in different level of chess and debate competition.
Countries travelled - Mr. Justice Alam visited India, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia, Qatar and the United Kingdom.
